2013 Community Builder

This year over 100 of our LifeSpan members and their family and friends joined us for our Community Community BuilderBuilder in Abilene, KS.

We started out the day at the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad for a round trip tour to Enterprise, KS on a restored 100 year old coach/diner and open-air observation car pulled by a 1945 ALCO S-1 diesel-electric locomotive. From age 1 on up, we all enjoyed the cool breeze and the great scenary that the beautiful Kansas countryside provided.

Afterwards, the volunteers of Old Abilene Town provided a re-enactment of a gunfight. This was an added surprise to our group since it wasn’t on our itinerary. All ages seemed to enjoy the skit before we headed to the Famous Brookville Hotel to enjoy a family style chicken dinner.

With our bellies full of a home cooked meal, our LifeSpan family headed to the Eisenhower Presidential Library for a short film about Eisenhower’s life and legacy and a tour of Eisenhower’s Boyhood Home and Place of Meditation. Then we all ventured through the past, taking a look at the ‘Remembered Leaders, Battles and Heroes Exhibit of WWII.’ Whether you were young or old, you couldn’t help but be fascinated by the exhibits’ collections, pictures and stories of the past.

We thank all of our LifeSpan members and their guests that were able to join us for the event and we hope to see everyone next year!
